David N. Edwards is vice president and chief technology officer of Avery Dennison Corporation. He is based at the Avery Research Center in Pasadena, California. He was elected to his current position in November 2005.

Dr. Edwards joined Avery Dennison in 1999 as director of New Business Development. He was promoted to vice president of Corporate Research in February of 2000 and vice president of Corporate Research and Business Development in December of 2002. In 2003, he received the Company’s Leadership Excellence Award for Leadership Development and Organizational Effectiveness.

In addition to managing the Avery Research Center, Dr. Edwards is also responsible for Avery Dennison’s overall technology strategy and portfolio, which focuses on:

• identifying and prioritizing key technical needs across all businesses
• developing Avery Dennison's external innovation network
• identifying and initiating research on new technology platforms
• developing mechanisms to share learning and improve collaboration across the technical organizations

Dr. Edwards was born in Northampton, England. He graduated in 1984 from Cambridge University, England, with a Ph.D. in chemical engineering.
