WELCOME TO THE AVERY DENNISON FOUNDATION

Charitable giving with a strategic focus
on education and
environmental sustainability

A Letter to Our Friends and Partners

The vision of the Avery Dennison Foundation is to inspire human promise toward a more intelligent and sustainable world. This vision drives the Avery Dennison Foundation mission to advance the causes of education and sustainability in the communities where Avery Dennison employees live and work. In cooperation with organizations that receive grants, the Foundation also encourages corporate employees to engage in local community investment opportunities and, through volunteer work, bring the same spirit of invention and innovation found at the heart of our company's success.

The Avery Dennison Foundation is expanding our global giving and community investment opportunities. In addition to communities now receiving grants, our global giving program will expand in China and to India and Brazil. We strive to make a measurable difference in the lives of young people and families near our corporate facilities.

Business units and their employees, from Corporate Headquarters in the U.S. to cities in several countries, are prepared to identify and work with local teams to prioritize projects and focus additional resources to ensure their success. The Avery Dennison Foundation Trustees and Staff are pleased to provide leadership for these efforts and encourage you to read more about how to participate.

Sincerely yours,

H. Russell Smith Volunteer Award

In 2011, the Avery Dennison Foundation awarded five employees with the inaugural H. Russell Smith Volunteer Award. This award recognizes and encourages exemplary volunteer community service by Avery Dennison employees worldwide.

The award is named after former Avery Dennison Chairman, President and CEO, H. Russell Smith, who has been actively committed to community service throughout his life. The award supports Avery Dennison's corporate value of Community, while fostering the Foundation's vision of inspiring human promise to create a more intelligent and sustainable world.

Avery Dennison

We are proud of the many ways in which we volunteer.
Avery Dennison employees around the world volunteer much time and talent. To demonstrate our appreciation and help address critical social needs, we provide corporate financial support for many organizations that improve the quality of life within the communities where our employees live and work.

Application Guidelines

Basic Qualifications:

The Avery Dennison Foundation will provide grants to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with capacity to successfully manage projects. We welcome applications that incorporate innovation and invention while uplifting communities and encouraging young people to imagine and work toward creating their vision for an improved world.

These application guidelines serve to clarify the kind of projects we may fund and to help applicants develop proposals that may meet qualifications for funding. Please take time to carefully read and understand our process for submitting proposals. We seek to fund projects managed by organizations that demonstrate three essential qualities. To be considered, all organizations should demonstrate that they:

1. Are licensed and recognized by their respective governments;
2. Provide services to benefit the public where Avery Dennison has facilities and a significant workforce;
3. Incorporate Avery Dennison employees into the community programs offered by the nonprofit/NGO

Areas of Focus:

The Foundation has a special focus on projects based in China, India and Brazil; however, grant applications from other regions will also be reviewed. All grant awards will relate to and extend our strategic focus to support education, as well as community-based sustainable environmental projects. Also, within each broad area of focus, there are additional criteria that include:

Education

• Direct services to traditionally underserved populations based on gender, socioeconomic status, geography and community need
• Educational improvements including elementary, secondary, post-secondary and vocational schools
• Fields of interest that include the sciences, math, technology and the graphic and visual arts

Environment

• Direct support for projects that focus on improvements in the physical environment
• Projects involving community-based implementation with resident and youth engagement
• Projects that educate and promote responsible care of the environment within environmental issues relevant to the manufacturing industry such as energy, water conservation, waste reduction, recycling, responsible forestry, sustainable packaging, product safety and resource conservation

What We Do Not Fund:

• We do not sponsor conferences, fundraisers and special events.
• Organizations that discriminate against a person or a group on the basis of age, political affiliation, race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation or religious belief;
• Individuals(scholarships, stipends, fellowships, travel grants, etc);
• For-profit organizations or ventures;
• Government agencies;
• Sponsorships (sports teams, fundraising initiatives);
• Religious groups for religious purposes;
• Political organizations, candidates, ballot measure or other political activities;
• Institutional endowments

On-Line Application Process:

The Avery Dennison Foundation uses an on-line application process that is user-friendly and facilitates efficient handling of applications. To begin a new application, one person from each applicant organization must complete the process on-line. The application can be opened, started, reviewed, changed, and re-started to allow the respondent a full understanding of the questions and to encourage complete responses to questions.

Grantseekers may start the application process here.

Returning applicants may access submissions here.

 Global Grantmaking Initiative
A strategic philanthropic effort to support nonprofit, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and educational institutions that are recognized and licensed by their respective governments. Organizations must provide services to benefit the public where Avery Dennison has facilities and a significant workforce. One of the criteria for funding is the ability to incorporate Avery Dennison employees into the community programs offered by the nonprofit/NGO/school.
