Avery Dennison Volunteers Help Combat Homelessness

“Working together to provide much-needed services is joyful and fulfilling."

In August, 26 Avery Dennison employees from the Corporate headquarters in Glendale, California volunteered with Union Station Homeless Services for the third time this year to help support the nonprofit’s mission to end homelessness in the community. Collectively, employees volunteered 104 hours, performing a variety of tasks at Union Station’s Adult Center in Pasadena, from preparing meals in the kitchen, to painting walls, cleaning the facility and more.

For over 40 years, Union Station has been helping individuals and families rebuild their lives and exit homelessness. Avery Dennison entered a partnership with Union Station earlier this year and has since donated $50,000 to support this important cause.

Anne Miskey recently took the role of CEO for Union Station because she wanted to make a difference. She shares, “I loved that there were real solutions to help the communities, and I wanted to do my part and help out. People who experience homelessness are people. They are our neighbors and they come from all different types of talents and backgrounds.”

Avery Dennison’s CEO, Mitch Butier, stopped by to volunteer his time to help support Union Station Homeless Services efforts to end homelessness.

It’s a big task and, of course, Anne can’t do it alone. She has formed a wonderful team around her to make a change. The organization operates on hard work, volunteers, and donations.

Avery Dennison volunteers split into different groups to complete the various assignments available at the Adult Center. Some volunteers helped with lunch by plating meals, serving food, and cleaning the dining hall afterwards. They also prepped meals for the following days by chopping vegetables.

Other volunteers helped paint and wipe down walls and, of course, spend time with the residents by chatting with them, playing games, and participating in activities.

“As a new employee, this volunteer event was a great opportunity for me to work side by side with colleagues from different departments,” said Noelle Ito, specialist, corporate social responsibility and the Avery Dennison Foundation. “Working together to provide much-needed services is joyful and fulfilling,” added Anne Absey, corporate communications coordinator.

“Everyone was enthusiastic and ready to give back and engage with Union Station,” said Janet Sandoval, director, corporate social responsibility and the Avery Dennison Foundation. “I'm very proud that Avery Dennison encourages our employees to contribute to the social and economic wellbeing of our communities."

The Corporate headquarters team looks forward to their next volunteer opportunity with Union Station Homeless Services later this winter.
