What attracted you to your chosen work?

Honestly, this is the first I have heard of this job before applying for a product compliance internship at Avery Dennison. Shocking, I know! But as many of my peers in this profession know, it isn't introduced in schools. After I started working in Product Compliance, I really started to love it. There are many reasons, but the main one for me is the dynamic workweek and the connection it has to all the departments in the company. A day can have meetings with our R&D colleagues, quickly followed by talking to our legal team, customers or the marketing teams. The role comes with a lot of responsibility, but that also gives a feeling of meaningful, impactful work.

What skills did you develop early that are still useful today?

I developed two skills early in my career and have continued to grow through time management and prioritization. In this profession, and probably in many others, everyone needs everything from you immediately, whether it is governments, internal teams, or customers. They all want your time right now. Properly assessing how long something will take and its importance over other tasks helps keep your head above water and deliver on time.

How have you grown in your career at Avery Dennison?

In so many ways! Over the years I have been with Avery Dennison, I grew through various positions and responsibilities and in many other topics. I have gained more time management, project management, and people management skills. Through this career, I have grown professionally and as a person.

What's the biggest stretch opportunity you've taken on?

This is a tricky question! A big-stretch opportunity often looks smaller after you have taken it. But the biggest stretch was definitely after I finished my bachelor's, and I was lost on what to do after my studies. I was close to working in the lab, but then I took a giant leap to start my Master's instead. Looking back now, I do not regret any of it and would do it all over again.

Discovering product compliance at Avery Dennison was a revelation for me. It wasn't something I knew about before, but I love it for its dynamic nature.

What role has mentorship played in your career?

I have come across some great people throughout my working career who helped to shape my thinking, priorities and sometimes even my life decisions. It sounds huge, I know. But sometimes, you just run into someone who is the right mentor at the right time. They will help you discover yourself and support you with your growth goals. A true enabler helps to unleash your potential.

What's the best career decision you've ever made?

I am relatively early in my career, so it's difficult to choose one that has been the best decision I've ever made. But if you have to put me on the spot, I would say to stay within Avery Dennison. Over these 3 years, I have had a lot of personal growth while also being able to focus on myself and understand what I want from life.

As you think about the next steps in your career, what are the most essential actions you plan to take?

For the next steps in my career, there is one significant action I will keep with me. I must stay true to my core values of integrity, kindness, and helping others unleash their potential. Staying true to yourself is the most essential thing in life, and I know that I will eventually end up where I should be. What that will look like is something that only time can tell.

What do you enjoy most about the work you do?

There are many things to choose from, from customer satisfaction to the dynamic environment and the people. What I truly enjoy and that gives me the most energy is seeing all my team members grow every day, even if it is just a little bit.
