How does RFID work?
At the heart of a label embedded with RFID technology is a small component called an inlay. The inlay sits inside a standard label and is made up of three parts: a chip, an antenna and a carrier.
The chip stores identifying data, while the antenna captures radio signals from an RFID reader and sends the information back. The carrier holds the chip and antenna together on a flexible material, allowing the inlay to be embedded smoothly in a label.
Unlike barcodes, RFID technology doesn’t require line-of-sight scanning. Tags can be read automatically, from a distance and in large volumes, making it possible to identify and track individual items quickly and reliably as they move through the supply chain.
