What is glass packaging?
loading

Made from natural resources, glass packaging is widely used in the food and beverage industry due to its ability to preserve the quality, taste and aroma of products. Premium industries, such as wine and spirits and beauty, choose glass because of its luxury appeal.
Known for its high collection rate, glass packaging is also fully* recyclable and easily returnable. Reusing returnable glass containers can minimize waste and resource consumption. These benefits, combined with its aesthetic appeal and functionality, make glass packaging an ideal option for a wide range of industries.

How glass packaging is recycled
Glass is widely used across many packaging formats, and when collected properly, it can be returned and reused in various applications. The process typically follows two streams: one for single-use glass packaging and another for returnable items. By recycling glass, we help keep valuable materials in use and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Single-use glass
- Collection and sorting: Used glass is collected, sorted by color and broken down into smaller fragments called cullet.
- Label removal: With AD CleanGlass™, labels are designed to remove easily during the purification - preventing adhesive contamination of the glass melt.
- Material recovery: Clean cullet is melted and molded into new packaging - supporting a high-quality, closed-loop recycling process.

Returnable glass
- Collection and cleaning: Glass packaging is collected and undergoes industrial cleaning to remove residues and prepare the container for its next cycle.
- Label performance: Labels either wash off cleanly during recovery or remain resistant to caustic washes to ensure branding durability.
- Refilling and reuse: Clean containers are inspected, refilled and returned to the market - extending the packaging's life cycle.
