What attracted you to your chosen work?

I was very interested in the objective of this mission, which can be summarized as: serving our company while serving our biggest customer! It came at a moment in my career when I wanted to explore a new field after spending almost 25 years in operations.

What skills did you develop early that are still useful today?

Curiosity, autonomy and building a strong network have been essential. During my internships and early roles, I learned to navigate different teams, cultures, multinational companies and industries. These experiences confirmed that being agile and having the ability to adapt to different environments can help people connect with your ideas and projects, ultimately allowing you to achieve results faster.

How have you grown in your career at Avery Dennison?

I have grown a lot since I joined Avery Dennison Luxembourg in 2007. I made the decision to take a step back in my career when I first joined the company, which wasn’t an easy choice, especially when I already had an interesting role and a strong network.

However, I believed the opportunities for growth at Avery Dennison would prove fruitful. Looking back, it was the right decision for me, and over the years, I have progressed from working rotations as a coating team leader to becoming a senior sales director for global key accounts.

What's the biggest stretch opportunity you've taken on?

Moving to Brazil as a plant manager in 2011, without speaking Portuguese. Two months after arriving, I was given responsibility for the full South American operations, despite not speaking Spanish either.

In the end, it was an incredible decision and one of the best experiences of my life. Despite a very busy professional life, I also experienced an important personal milestone of welcoming my daughter during that time.

My greatest satisfaction is seeing my mentees grow in their careers while continuing to enjoy their personal lives.

What role has mentorship played in your career?

Mentorship has helped me see things from a different and broader perspective. I have been mentored by several strong and inspiring leaders who pushed me beyond my comfort zone and helped me grow over the years. I’m still mentored today and I believe I always will be, because there’s always more to learn.

At the same time, I mentor several people myself to support them both in their professional and personal development. My greatest satisfaction is seeing my mentees grow in their careers while continuing to enjoy their personal lives.

What's the best career decision you've ever made?

There have been several, but one of the most recent was moving into my current role. Some people were surprised by my decision because it’s not the traditional path after spending almost 25 years in operations.

However, my experience gives me strong credibility. I understand how our products are made and the quality of work delivered by the people who produce them. Our customers highly appreciate that perspective. For me, making this change felt like a natural step and my husband agreed, which was a great sign since he’s the one who knows me best.

As you think about the next steps in your career, what are the most important actions you plan to take?

My focus is on delivering results with my team, developing the team members and building a multi-year strategy.

I don’t see my journey as simply building a personal career. Instead, I see my role as delivering the best possible outcomes with my team and peers to support the positive evolution of the business. If that leads to my next career step, that’s great. If the challenge aligns with my personal aspirations, I’ll take it and work hard to deliver the best results.

What do you enjoy most about the work you do?

I enjoy interacting with different cultures around the world, solving complex problems and navigating uncertainty to contribute to business growth.

I particularly enjoy analyzing situations and finding solutions, which is probably why I chose to become an engineer in the first place.

International Women’s Day Reflections

What has shaped your confidence throughout your career, and how has that evolved?

My mother has been a great source of inspiration. She’s always had a simple philosophy: If someone can do it, you can do it even better.

What advice would you give to the next generation of women considering a path like yours?

Be authentic. Work hard, life is not always easy. Be ambitious, keep your promises and stay strong.

What is a 'barrier' you’re proud to see disappearing for women in our industry?

More and more people understand that women are simply professionals, not female professionals.

Gender has nothing to do with being a good professional, and today, a much larger number of people recognize that.
