A seminar organized by Avery Dennison in association with International Road Federation (IRF) - India Chapter

Avery Dennison Reflective Solutions, an organization committed to keeping the roads safe by providing innovative road safety solutions, organized a seminar on “Safer Roads, Safer Mobility” in association with the International Road Federation (IRF)-India Chapter on 14th June 2022 at New Delhi. The event focussed on technical panel discussions to bring out the varied views to address road safety and actions needed for safer mobility in the country. 

Several eminent industry members attended the event. Some of the panel members included Mr. Satish Parikh, President-IRF,  Mr. K J Alphons, a Member of Parliament and former Union minister of state for Tourism, Mr. Peter Koomen, Business Director (EMEA, ASEAN & S. Asia)-Avery Dennison, Prof. Sewa Ram-HOD, Transport Planning-School of Planning & Architecture, Mr. Rahul Bharti, Executive Director-Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Mr. V. K. Singh, ADG (Traffic Rajasthan Police Department, Mr. Amandeep Singh, Senior Regional Business Manager (South Asia and East Africa)-Avery Dennison.

The topics of panel discussions were (i) Safe corridor- Is it a concept or a reality (ii) Safe mobility- are we doing enough? The panelists emphasized the importance of the 5 Es of road safety- Education, Enforcement, Engineering, Environment, and Emergency Care in reducing the fatalities due to road accidents. 

“India should learn from the several strategies adopted abroad in countries like Sweden and Japan to achieve Vision Zero,” mentioned Mr. Peter Koomen, Business Director, Avery Dennison. He also stressed the importance of improved road engineering with superior quality road safety products to prevent accidents in the first place. 

Mr. Amandeep Singh, Regional Business Manager (South Asia and ASEAN), appealed to the road authorities to ensure specification-compliant traffic signs and road marking products are approved for the National Highways, State Highways, and urban areas road projects. He covered the engineering and education aspects of the 5 E’s by presenting innovative and sustainable solutions like the TrafficJetTM Print System by Avery Dennison for printing traffic signs. The panel members also discussed the importance of adopting innovative and sustainable solutions for making roads safer while caring for our environment.

The session concluded with Mr. T. Krishna Prasad, Retd. DGP & Chairman Road Safety Authority applauding the efforts taken by the government to improve the road safety scenario in the country. But he also suggested certain education, enforcement, and engineering initiatives be adopted to work toward reducing blackspots and preventing road accidents. 

Avery Dennison has collaborated with IRF-IC on multiple road safety initiatives in the past and will continue to invest in the subject to make roads safer for road users.
