What attracted you to your chosen work?
I love the challenges and problem solving opportunities that happen in IT. Many days can be extremely challenging, but even more are rewarding.

What skills did you develop early that are still useful today?
I have always been (or tried to be) very logical and data driven in my approach to problem solving. I think that is why I chose to pursue mathematics and statistics for my college education.

Also, people love to laugh. I learned at a young age that a little bit of humor and levity goes a long way towards building relationships. So, I try to inject a little bit of humor with people throughout the day.

What's the biggest stretch opportunity you've taken on?
I have been very fortunate to have been given a number of stretch opportunities over the years. Some of them include the opportunities to lead the End User Services, IT Service Management, and Collaboration Services towers. At the time I considered all of these big stretch opportunities because I knew very little about the respective fields prior to leading them!

Luckily for me I have always been surrounded and supported by brilliant teammates and management.  I would like to think that together we have made a positive impact on the Avery Dennison IT team.

What role has mentorship played in your career?
Mentorship has been of extremely high importance for me. Having a trusted person to obtain career advice, discuss various issues, and share ideas. has definitely changed how I approach problems and view the world around me. For me, having good mentors has definitely been invaluable.

I have been quite fortunate to have had many people take a chance on me, show trust in me, and just give me an opportunity to succeed.

What’s the best career decision you’ve ever made?
From an employer perspective, working for Avery Dennison has been the best decision for me. Absolutely no question about that. I have been quite fortunate to have had many people take a chance on me, show trust in me, and just give me an opportunity to succeed.

From a worker characteristic (so to speak) perspective, I would say that frequently stepping out of my comfort zone for growth purposes has served me well.

In my history, new opportunities have rarely presented themselves as a “perfect match” for my skill set. But, I soon realized that if I wanted to increase my knowledge, my experience, my confidence, and my overall value to the company, then I better learn how to step out of my comfort zone!

As you think about the next steps in your career, what are the most important actions you plan to take?
The most important actions that I have planned actually don’t revolve around my career.  The world has been a challenging place over the past couple of years and I want to focus more on my family, my physical health, and just take some time for myself.

What do you enjoy most about the work you do?
I really enjoy the people and the tough problems we are challenged with.  There is never a dull moment in the world of IT.
