ADF Scholars Demonstrate Education Access in Action

ADF Scholarship recipients (left to right): Adityatej Ghosh, India; Lorand-Georgian Szasz, Romania; Kendall & Kingsley (KJ) Funk, United States.

For nearly 50 years, the Avery Dennison Foundation (ADF) has supported the children of Avery Dennison employees pursuing higher education through two scholarship programs.

Since 1977, the U.S. and Canada Children of Employees Scholarship program has awarded 2,194 scholarships to students whose parents work at Avery Dennison facilities across the U.S. and Canada. Building on that commitment, in 2022, ADF introduced the Global Children of Employees Scholarship to extend this opportunity. What began in Mexico and Vietnam has now expanded to 15 countries, with Indonesia, Kenya, Pakistan, Romania, and Thailand added this year. The program has awarded more than 140 scholarships to students worldwide.

The programs are administered by Scholarship America and the Institute of International Education, both recognized leaders in equitable scholarship design and management. This year, we’re spotlighting three Avery Dennison scholarship families from India, Romania, and the United States. Their stories illustrate the global reach and impact of ADF’s Education Access pillar.

Adityatej Ghosh – Law Student from Bangalore, India

For Adityatej Ghosh, a third-year law student at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), the Avery Dennison Foundation scholarship has been life-changing. His mother, Mahasweta Ghosh,  senior legal counsel, APAC, based in Bangalore, India, first shared the opportunity with him, and the award has enabled him to pursue diverse opportunities. With the scholarship’s support, Adityatej has completed internships, participated in debate competitions across India, and grown as a leader, most recently serving as Convenor of his college’s Literary and Debating Society. According to Adityatej, “Due to the support of the scholarship and my loving family, I have been able to expand my intellectual horizons to cultivate a more holistic worldview.” Inspired by his mother’s career and his love for social sciences, Adityatej aspires to become a litigating lawyer who can use the power of law to drive meaningful change. For him, the scholarship is not only a financial relief but also a source of confidence to pursue ambitious goals that will one day make a difference in society.

Lorand-Georgian Szasz – Engineering Student from Timisoara, Romania

At the Politehnica University of Timisoara, Lorand-Georgian Szasz is charting a path toward a future in telecommunications and embedded systems. A third-year student in Electronics, Telecommunications, and IT, Lorand was encouraged to apply for the Avery Dennison Foundation scholarship by his father, Csaba Szasz, a data center technician at Avery Dennison in Timisoara, Romania. Receiving the award has since made an enormous difference in his academic journey. With the scholarship, Lorand was able to purchase a new laptop, invest in specialized courses in German and Linux, and study remotely, reducing the daily challenges of commuting. These resources enable him to focus more deeply on his studies and prepare for a career as a specialist contributing to innovative, real-world technology solutions. According to Lorand, “I am truly grateful for the opportunity given to me by the Avery Dennison Foundation. This award alleviates certain financial pressures while also reinforcing my commitment to excelling in my studies and pursuing my goals. I look forward to applying the skills and knowledge I gain throughout this scholarship in my future career. Thank you to everyone who made this happen!”

Kendall & Kingsley (KJ) Funk – Twin Scholars from Oklahoma, US

For twin sisters Kendall and Kingsley (KJ) Funk, the Avery Dennison Foundation scholarship is more than financial support—it’s a shared family milestone. Their father, Brian Funk, system engineer at Avery Dennison in Little Rock, Arkansas, encouraged them to apply. The twins are college sophomores pursuing careers in health sciences. Kendall, a student at Oklahoma State University, is majoring in Exercise Science with aspirations of becoming an athletic trainer for professional or collegiate athletes. She is a proud member of the prestigious President’s Leadership Council and deeply involved in service and mentoring on campus. KJ attends the University of Oklahoma, studying Health and Exercise Science on a pre-Physical Therapy track. Already gaining experience as a physical therapy tech, she dreams of working hands-on with patients to restore independence and improve quality of life. The twins feel really lucky and thankful to be recipients of an Avery Dennison Foundation scholarship. KJ shared, “This scholarship helps me focus on school and my future without worrying about money. I am excited to keep working hard and make the most of this opportunity.” Kendall added, “I am so grateful to be an ADF scholarship recipient and thank you to the foundation!”

The Avery Dennison Foundation’s U.S. and Canada Children of Employees Scholarship and Global Children of Employees Scholarship are two important programs that provide more than financial support to Avery Dennison families. They open up opportunities, allowing our students to explore paths that fuel their career goals and ultimately strengthen the connections between employees, their families, and our future leaders. Congratulations to all of our scholarship recipients!
