What attracted you to your chosen work?
I got the attraction of operations in my first year at Avery Dennison when I worked at the Gotha site. I was working as a process engineer at the time and was quickly attracted by the contact with people. Despite the language barrier, since I don't speak German very well, I managed to bond with my colleagues. I liked working on the machines but what I liked most of all was to help improve the quality of people's work.

Thanks to the ECP program I had the possibility to change positions during my second year, so I naturally moved to a team leader position. Since then, I have become a coordinator but I still have the desire to do my best to improve the daily life of my team. In the end, working in operations allows me to stay in touch with people while getting an overview of all the departments that make up our production plants.

What skills did you develop early that are still useful today?
From my experience and education I try to be an impartial and fair person. I think this is a necessary skill to manage any team as it makes the decisions taken more readable and therefore easier to understand by basing them on facts, on my values and on the company's. Thanks to my experiences abroad I quickly developed an ability to draw inspiration from the different people I met to keep what I liked most in them and apply it to myself.

How have you grown in your career at Avery Dennison?
I started at Avery Dennison 6 years ago as a trainee in the engineering team on the "Lux Expansion Project", which aimed to set up a new machine (Lux3) in a new building at the Rodange site in Luxembourg. I then joined the ECP program which allowed me to work one year at Gotha, in Germany, and then to come back as Team Leader in the Finishing 2 meters department in Rodange. In January 2021, I became production coordinator on Lux3. I was very happy to be able to manage the department on a brand new machine of which I had just seen the plans during my internship 3 years earlier ! Since January 2023 I'm now working in another production department, still as a production coordinator.

What role has mentorship played in your career?

I have been fortunate to be very well accompanied and coached since my arrival by experienced people who know how to transmit their taste for effort, excellence and teamwork. I have always felt supported, which has helped me increase my self-confidence, my ability to make decisions and to be effective. I have always been fortunate to have people ready to advise and help me whenever I needed it.

I think that working with people can be more uncertain and difficult than working with machines, but the successes are all the more satisfying and rewarding.

What’s the best career decision you’ve ever made?

Joining the ECP program and doing my first rotation in Gotha was the best decision I have made in my career so far. It allowed me to integrate a group of newcomers with whom I had a great time, to discover my appetite for team management, to work on another production site and to meet new people. I had a great year with the team and I have very good memories of it. Finally, it was this experience that allowed me to find my way and to do what I do today.

As you think about the next steps in your career, what are the most important actions you plan to take?

I don't have a clear career path, what will be important for me in the next steps of my career will be first of all to try to give back to my teams what my mentors did with me, that is to say, to give them confidence and to give them the means to develop themself. The impact of our society on the climate is also something that is close to my heart and on which I hope to play a role whatever my position. Like many people, my balance between my personal and professional life will also be important and finally, I don't forbid myself to find an experience abroad!

What do you enjoy most about the work you do?

In a few words: dynamic, varied, contact, unpredictable, continuous improvement, excellence.
