High Mast Signs for the Indian Oil Industry Go Digital

With the ever-increasing vehicular activity on the roads, there is always a constant need to provide superior-quality road infrastructure. The continuous initiatives driven by the road development authorities promote the availability and accessibility of various utilities and facilities provided on the roads and highways to support the requirements of travelers.

Just like the traffic signs on the roads help drivers navigate the directions to a destination, some facility information signs communicate the available utilities and services, like service stations, fuel pumps, restrooms, and emergency facilities along the road. In India, fuel filling stations are visible from long distances due to high mast signs and entry-exit signs, which use retro-reflective sheeting to enhance visibility day and night.

In collaboration with its channel partners, Avery Dennison has executed multiple signage projects for the oil industry like Reliance Jio, IOCL, HPCL etc. One remarkable project worth highlighting is the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) high mast signs. These high mast signs are made using OmniCube™ Type XI retro-reflective sheeting printed on the TrafficJet™ Print System protected by OL-1000 anti-graffiti overlay film. These signs with brand logos help road users recognize and find the fuel-filling station of a preferred brand.

The conventional methods of making high mast signs involved overlay on sheeting, screen printing, or sheeting on sheeting. These production methods typically produce a lot of waste which is harmful to the environment and can be time-consuming and labor-intensive. The BPCL team focussed on utilizing a faster and environment-friendly method for manufacturing the 550 high mast signs. And because the turnaround for this project was just 45 days, it was impossible to convert these signs using conventional sign production methods.

Avery Dennison’s team of experts, supported by the revolutionary TrafficJet Print System, attracted the confidence of the BPCL team after multiple rounds of discussions and trials. The sign samples were then fabricated with the specified brand colors of the BPCL logo without any deviation, which outperformed the client's expectations. The project is under execution, and the client appreciates the performance of these signs.

The TrafficJet Print System is one of the best-selling digital platforms for superior printing quality and specification-compliant warranted traffic signs. The entire solution is accredited by Indian Roads Congress (IRC) and is becoming a preferred choice in India to make durable signs that are warranted for up to 15 years. True Traffic Color™ spot inks and included software automate sign making, simplify the printing of specification-compliant traffic control, wayfinding, and custom signage. The inks used for making these signs are GreenGuard Gold certified for low VOC content emission.
